Title Transfers
Whether you are buying, selling, donating, or transferring a vehicle into Louisiana from another state, our staff will work to make your transactions as safe and efficient as possible. Notaries are always on duty at all 4 locations. These services are available at all our offices, and same-day vehicle registration plates and registrations are available at our Jones Creek, Winbourne, and Drusilla locations.
In one visit, you can:
- Have your title transfer notarized
- Register your vehicle
- Obtain a license plate
Requirements for having an auto title transfer notarized
In the most simple circumstances, transfers can be notarized in our office when:
-
The buyer(s) and the seller(s) are present, each with a valid, state-issued ID or driver's license
-
A clean, unaltered Certificate of Title for the vehicle is provided
-
There is no lien recorded on the title, or there is proof that the lien was released properly
If #1-3 are possible, the buyer and the seller can bring in the title and their state-issued driver's license or IDs, and have the transfer notarized, and the vehicle can be registered in the new owner's name. If the buyer provides proof that they are insured for the vehicle, we can also issue a hard plate.
Additional documentation or requirements may apply when:
-
The seller or buyer cannot be present
-
The seller is deceased
-
The certificate of title is from a different state
-
A lien needs to be released or recorded
-
The vehicle is salvaged or reconstructed
-
The title is filled out incorrectly
-
The vehicle has not been registered to the seller
