Notary FAQ

We accept US Government issued photo identification, including driver’s licenses, state ID cards, passports, U.S. military IDs, and inmate IDs.

A Notary Public is an official of integrity appointed by state government  to serve the public as an impartial witness the signing of important documents and administer oaths.

 

No! Notaries are prohibited from preparing legal documents or providing legal advise unless they are also a licensed attorney. 

A notary can certify a copies of written agreements, and other prepared documents. However, a notary cannot certify a copy of a passport, driver’s license, state ID, birth or death certificate. Individuals must contact the State Bureau of Vital Statistics or the parish Clerk’s office in the parish where the person was born for a certified copy of their birth certificate. 

Notarized documents should contain the following 

(1) language committing the signer to the contents of the document 

(2) an original signature from the document signer

(3) notarial certificate, which can appear in the document itself or in an attachment.
